An abstraction of a real world phenomenon that physically places the phenomenon via an implicit or explicit reference to a specific location relative to the Earth. In other words, it is a set of information that describes the placement of something tangible in such a way that 1) the tangible thing can be depicted on a map and 2) the relationships between the thing and other tangible things can be analyzed through their representations as geospatial features. Examples of GEOSPATIAL-FEATUREs are: a specific building's footprint polygon, a specific fire hydrant's point, chemical concentrations in ground water for a specific INTEREST-AREA, and population density for a specific GEOPOLITICAL-AREA. |
