Description: A Business System is an information system, other than a national security system, operated by, for, or on behalf of the Department of Defense, including financial systems, mixed systems, financial data feeder systems, and information technology and information assurance infrastructure, used to support business activities. These business activities include acquisition, financial management, logistics, strategic planning and budgeting, installations and environment, and human resources management. (FY05 NDAA) In addition, the DODD 8500.1 further defines a system as a set of information resources organized for the collection, storage, processing, maintenance, use, sharing, dissemination, disposition, display, or transmission of information. DCMO business systems include: Federal Systems used or supported by DoD; Component (multi-Component) standard systems; major command systems; and data stores. DCMO business systems do not include: office automation, data management, information assurance, and other similar types of enabling software.
