A constant number symbolizing the ratio of the concentration of a chemical or material in the upper of two phases in equilibrium to its concentration in the lower phase. Chemicals or materials in solution are partitioned into dissolved and particulate adsorbed phase based on their corresponding sediment-to-water partitioning coefficient.
