Description |

The Secretary concerned may defer the retirement for age of a regular commissioned officer serving in a pay grade below O-7 to no later than the first day of the month following the month in which the officer becomes sixty-eight years of age only when at least one of the following is true:
- The officer is in a category of officers designated by the Secretary as consisting of officers whose duties consist primarily of one of the following:
- providing health care
- performing other clinical care
- performing health care-related administrative duties
- Each of the following is true:
- The officer is one of the following:
- a medical officer
- a dental officer
- an officer in the Army Nurse Corps
- an officer in the Navy Nurse Corps
- an officer in the Air Force designated as a nurse
- The officer will perform duties consisting primarily of providing patient care or performing other clinical duties during the period of the deferment.
- Each of the following is true:
- The officer is appointed or designated as a chaplain.
- The Secretary determines that such deferral is in the best interest of the military department concerned. |
